Include a Museum in Your Thanksgiving Family Plan
November 8, 2022
This Thanksgiving it will be time once again to invite your family together under the same roof. And thanks to vaccinations and other mitigation efforts, COVID is less of a concern than in the past few years.
It’s time for a big Thanksgiving. But when you gather all the family together for part of the long weekend, it’s possible that your home won’t provide enough space or enough activities for the whole family. This is especially true if one or more members of your family are staying for several days.
So this Thanksgiving, add a museum visit to the weekend’s agenda. (And always check to see which days the place is open!)
Think about your family’s interests
First, think about the ages and interests of the members of your family. Do you have historical museums nearby for the history buff in your family? Does the budding young artist need some inspiration by attending a gallery or art museum?
And who doesn’t love trains?
Another way to start the process is to search Google for museums near your house. Or go to a truck stop near the highway and peruse the fliers posted for travelers in the area. It is possible that you will learn about some new opportunities or attractions in your area just by checking out the information originally intended for vacationers or people traveling through.
Think about your family’s ages
A second consideration is the ages of your family members. Will you be hosting only adults? Involve them in the planning and decision-making for that special weekend. Ask if they would be interested in seeing any of the sites you have identified as possibilities in your area.
Are there children of various ages coming on that weekend? Then you will want to plan an event with them in mind. Where can they walk, talk, play, interact, and enjoy a space together with their cousins and extended family members? Where will it be okay for them to touch and interact with many of the displays, and where will there be space for them to run and expend energy at lunch or before or after the visit.
How can you help them make memories, to create a Thanksgiving that everyone talks about for years to come?
Take them someplace special like an art museum, or to Entertrainment Junction!
